💰 Zakat Calculator 2026
Calculate your Zakat precisely in seconds: enter your cash, gold, trade goods, and debts, and the calculator automatically works out whether your wealth has reached the Nisab (minimum threshold), and how much Zakat you owe at 2.5% (a quarter of a tenth) after a full lunar year has passed on the money.
Nisab = 85 grams of gold. Zakat is 2.5% of wealth held for a full lunar year.
What is Zakat and why is it obligatory?
Zakat is the third pillar of Islam — a defined financial due obligatory on certain wealth once it reaches the Nisab and a full lunar year has passed over it, paid to those entitled to it as a purification of the soul and wealth and as a means of solidarity among Muslims. It is a mandatory duty, not a voluntary donation, upon every sane, adult Muslim who owns wealth reaching the Nisab.
Conditions for Zakat to become due
Zakat becomes obligatory on a Muslim once these conditions are met: the wealth is fully and exclusively owned by the person, it reaches the legally prescribed Nisab, a full Hijri (lunar) year passes over it (except Zakat on crops and fruit, which is due at harvest), and the wealth is growing or capable of growth — such as cash, gold, and trade goods — unlike a home or car used for personal need.
The Nisab and how it's calculated
The Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth at which Zakat becomes due on a Muslim. This calculator uses the gold Nisab, equivalent to 85 grams of pure gold, calculated by multiplying this weight by the current price per gram. Anyone holding cash, gold, or trade goods worth this amount or more, after subtracting current debts, owes Zakat at 2.5% of the total wealth.
Types of wealth subject to Zakat
| Type of wealth | How it's counted for Zakat |
|---|---|
| Cash & bank balances | The full saved amount that has been held for a full lunar year |
| Gold & silver | The value of the weight owned at the current market price (savings, not personally-worn items, per the predominant opinion) |
| Trade goods | The current market value of goods held for sale, not their purchase price |
| Money owed to you | Added to the Zakat base if it is reasonably expected to be recovered |
| Debts you owe | Deducted from total wealth before calculating Zakat |
The eight categories entitled to Zakat
The Quran specifies the recipients of Zakat in Surah At-Tawbah as eight categories: the poor, the needy, those who administer and collect it, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, those in bondage (freeing captives or slaves), those in debt, in the cause of Allah, and the stranded traveler.
